What does Act One Parties provide?

I provide all the entertainment, props and prizes for the games and activities, all music equipment, some disco lights, pass the parcel (if required), present for the birthday child/ren and a party plan approximately a week before so you know what to expect. I can come in suitable costume or in Act One Parties uniform.

Typically, what prizes do you provide?

Normally every child will win 1 or 2 prizes at an Act One Party which can include sticker sheets, notepads, pens/pencils, erasers, small toys etc. In the pass the parcel the main prize will be a stationary set, craft set or activity book or toy appropriate to the age of the children with a wrapped sweet in between each layer, For treasure hunts we find a treasure chest with a chocolate coin for each child inside. If there are children present with allergies then alternative prizes can be offered.

What do we need to provide for the party?

All you need to provide is a venue (this can be a hall or at home), food/drink and party bags. I will provide all the entertainment – games, activities, prizes, props & music. Even though I run the entire party from planning to execution there still needs to be some adults around for general supervision (I.E toilet trips, drinks). There also needs to be parking at the venue for loading and unloading (please advise at time of booking if this is a problem) and I will need access to a power point and a table.

How much set up/clear up time do you need?

I arrive 30 minutes before to set up and aim to be ready 10 minutes before the party start time to greet the children as they arrive. At the end I am usually clear 15 minutes after the party finish time.

What are the advantages of booking an entertainer?

In the run up to the party parents have so much to do – organise the food, party bags, invitations and that is on top of all the things we have to do on a daily basis. Many people are also not comfortable standing up in front of a group of children organising games etc. I am a very experienced party planner & host with over 15 years experience working with children of all ages. I am a qualified dance and drama teacher with public liability insurance and CRB checked. I spend a great deal of time planning each party individually – from devising games to sourcing prizes and props and then on the day I run the whole party leaving you free to organise the food and hopefully have time to sit back and enjoy some of the party and all the fun the children are having. My sense of fun, organisation and enthusiasm ensures that all children are kept involved and having a great time.

How many children can we have at a party?

My parties are best suited for up to 30 children. If there are a few more this is fine (but there is an additional charge if numbers go above 30) but do keep me informed of total numbers so that I come with enough props and prizes and so that all activities planned are the most suitable for the size of the group. Most halls will easily accommodate these numbers but do consider the size of your home/garden if you are having a party at home as too many children in these settings can restrict the games that can be offered.

I am having trouble finding a venue, can you help?

Yes please see my venue finder page. I am also happy to do a party in your home or garden (weather permitting!)

Do you arrive in costume?

If the costume is safe to drive in then yes! A few of my costumes (princess ones particularly) are too big to drive in and therefore I have to change into them on arrival at the venue.

When should we have food?

For most parties I suggest it is best to have it halfway through as by then the children will have worked up an appetite. Most of the time you will only need to allow 20 minutes for this. It is a good idea to have some drinks available throughout the party as we are very active and the children can get thirsty.

How far in advance do we need to book?

It is never too early to book and if you have a specific date in mind it is best to book as early as possible. Weekends get booked up most quickly but if you are flexible with dates then I will do my best to accommodate you whether it is several months away or a last minute party. I advise contacting your entertainer at least 2-3 months in advance to get a good selection of dates and times. It is often advisable to book your entertainer first and then your hall as there are far more halls than entertainers.

Can I reserve a date while I check if a venue is available?

Yes, I can reserve a date for up to 7 days before requiring a deposit.

I have a specific theme in mind that is not listed on here, is that possible?

Yes, the themes listed on the website are a guide, you can have whatever theme you would like. My experience and expertise means I can adapt games and activities to suit your needs.

Is it OK for parents to stay?

It is fine for parents to stay but I suggest having chairs set out in an area away from where the children will be doing their games and activities with me, so that any noise from talking is not distracting the children from all the fun games. It is also fine for parents to join in particularly if their child is a bit shy and may need some encouragement.

Do you only do birthday parties?

No, my entertainment works for Christening parties, children's entertainment at weddings, fun days/fetes, end of term parties at nurseries/schools – in fact any event where children will be be present and need entertaining!

Are your parties suitable for boys and girls?

Definitely – I have so many games and activities suitable for both boys and girls that it is no problem having a mixture of both at a party whatever the theme. It is also possible to combine themes to make a party suitable for both I.e princesses and pirates/superheroes/dinosaurs etc.
